03. Make My Day (ANTI CIMEX cover)
It is vinyl 7" time and Florida's HOT GRAVES make the purchase of the limited edition hot pink or black vinyl versions of "Desecration Time" worth your while, provided you don't mind a little death in your crusty d-beat. Heck, get the hot pink version; it just seems right.
"Desecration Time" may not be an essential purchase, but for $6.50 you really can't go wrong. Odds are that fans of crust punk and d-beat will find the HOT GRAVES wax more appealing than death metal fans since outside of the reverb-drenched growls and a grislier approach, the death metal part is a secondary part of the package. Of the two original cuts, the title track wins out for its raging tempo and a wailing solo after the gritty breakdown to bring it on home to the crypt. But "Baphomet's Revenge" is no slouch, picking up in similar fashion where its kindred title track left off. A ripped up and torn cover of ANTI CIMEX's "Make My Day" that surges with a screaming lead is the special treat of the batch. At 1:28 in length it flies by like one of those sightless vampires from the movie "Priest", so you may want to give it a couple of extra spins.
Not a bad way to empty your PayPal account, "Desecration Time" is a satisfying quick fix of the ghoulish stuff. It may even tempt you to pick up a copy of this year's HOT GRAVES' full-length release, "Knights in White Phosphorous", on Northern Horde Records. I just might check it out as well.
